MEET THE AUTHOR

Ana Urban

Author and creator of Pure Light, Volume One: Where Wonder Begins, and the founder of Pure Light.

Born in Brazil and now living in Brisbane, Ana is a mother of three who has practised yoga for 20 years and spent a decade dipping in and out of the Tao Te Ching. It wasn’t until she began writing it for children that its wisdom finally settled in her heart.

A longing for something bigger

Ana grew up in Brazil, longing to believe in something bigger. It took her many years, through motherhood, nature, 20 years of yoga and a daily meditation practice, to find the quiet trust she’d been searching for.

For around a decade she dipped in and out of the Tao Te Ching. She loved its ideas, but they never quite stayed with her. It wasn’t until she began putting them into words for children that they finally settled in her heart, and became Where Wonder Begins.

You can read more of that story in her Journal post, Faith, Fear & the Need to Believe in Something Bigger.

Why Pure Light

Children are born with a natural sense of wonder, kindness and curiosity, and some of the greatest lessons in life are gently shared.

What Ana believes

Ana wrote Pure Light to help children and their grown-ups connect more deeply, ask meaningful questions, and discover the light that already lives within them.

A vision, page by page

Ana had the vision for the book’s look long before she had the means to make it: folk-art illustrations full of the sea, stars and moons.

With no illustration background, and no budget for an illustrator, she created the artwork with AI image tools. She spent hours shaping each image to match what she saw in her mind, often more than an hour on a single illustration. Then she recoloured, refined and designed every one into the pages herself, learning Canva as she went.

Working on Pure Light doesn’t feel like work to her. It’s closer to a little spiritual practice.

Life beyond the book

Alongside Pure Light, Ana has worked in SEO and search marketing since 2010, helping small and medium businesses compete with much bigger names on the front page of Google. She holds a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Marketing.

She lives in Brisbane with her husband Dec, their three children, and two much-loved pets, Skywalker and Rockstar. The book is, and always will be, for her children.
